Performance Mentoring

Performance Mentoring

We offer informal and formal mentoring. Informal mentoring can be as short as a ten minute phone call, following up after a course or supporting commitments the individual made; formal mentoring typically lasts one hour, but can last longer, depending on the needs of the individual.

Our clients include a wide range of business professionals, from sole traders, who require some one-to-one support to think strategically and practically, to corporate executives, looking for a fresh pair of eyes and the opportunity to think more creatively.  Our Performance Mentoring is available to anyone.

The Lamont Associates approach to mentoring is underpinned by the same principles and values as all our other programmes.  It incorporates the same processes and tools that are used for all our training events to ensure an holistic approach, but in a one-to-one format.

What is mentoring?

Mentoring is a confidential, developmental process by which one person assists another to grow, learn and overcome obstacles in a safe, sympathetic relationship.

Mentoring is an informal partnership in which Mentor and Mentee work together as equals

Mentoring provides advice and guidance; it is based on the values of trust, mutual respect and friendship, and it helps to build self-reliance

By sharing experience, knowledge and insights, a Mentee can gain new skills and new perspectives from their Mentor

The process

The agenda for each meeting is agreed by the Mentor and Mentee.  Typically the process will follow the following format:

  •       Where are you now?

  •       Where do you want to be?

  •       Identification of the problem/challenges

  •       Establish the most likely causes and consider the effects

  •       Identify possible solutions

  •       Select solutions within your capabilities

  •       Plan actions

  •       Implement the planned actions

Lamont Associates tools, such as strategising and radiant problem solving are used as appropriate to support the process

The benefits for the Mentee

  •      A source of guidance and perspective

  •      A safe space to try out ideas

  •      Helps in understanding others’ behaviour

  •      An opportunity for personal, reflective space

  •      A source of stretch and challenge

  •      Recognition of their value

  •      Access to networks and other learning resources
